How Moxie Collective Moved Its Workshops from Acuity into Shopify

Pick a city, say how much you have sewn, buy a class package. How Moxie Collective runs workshops in two cities from one Shopify store.

Moxie Collective moved its workshop bookings from Acuity into Shopify in April 2026. Two studios, two cities, and a membership program now run from the same store the classes sell through.

From first stitch to finished wardrobe

Moxie Collective teaches people to make their own clothes. From their studios in Houston and Austin, they run sewing classes, crochet nights, and signature workshops like Tailor Your Threads and Make Your Own Clothes, for anyone interested in making their own clothing and apparel, from first-time beginners to seasoned makers.

Moxie is not really selling seats. It is building a community, two studios of it, and every membership starts as somebody's first beginner class. The booking system is where a first visit turns into a regular, which makes it the front door and the customer record at once.

The challenge: Acuity bookings in one place, the Shopify store in another

Until April 2026, Moxie ran its bookings on Acuity, and Michaela was looking for a new solution. Bookings lived outside the store while products, customers, and payments sat elsewhere. Worst of all for a studio that runs ads, Acuity's tracking double-counted sales, so she couldn't tell which ads were actually working.

"The tracking was the worst. It counted double the sales. That was one of the biggest reasons. Shopify was just the better platform."

When she went looking for an Acuity alternative that lived inside Shopify, she did what a growing share of merchants now do: asked ChatGPT which Shopify booking app was best. It pointed to Easy Appointment Booking. She tried the competition anyway, and stayed for what Acuity couldn't give her: support that actually answers, the flexibility to sell a class paid up front or as a buy-now-book-later package, and best of all, bookings and orders in one system.

Support that shows up on launch night

Michaela rebuilt her site on a new Shopify theme and moved her bookings over in the same week, with the site set to go live that night. One catch: the new theme had shipped without an add to cart button on her class pages, so classes could not be booked. The Easy Appointments team got on it with her that evening and fixed it live, in time for launch.

"You guys have a really solid team, and that's what literally puts you above everybody else. Being able to sit and talk with somebody who's willing to hop on a call and go over what I'm confused about, that speaks volumes."

That first week set the pattern: she asked sharp questions, we answered fast, and within days she was importing her Acuity bookings, setting up per-class intake questions (sewing and crochet students get asked different things), and planning a second location. When she hit a wall during setup, one of the Easy Appointments team hopped on a Google Meet after his shift to walk through the site with her, and the team got her live that day.

How a customer books a class

With Easy Appointment Booking, every Moxie workshop became a bookable product in their Shopify store. Michaela did not just drop a calendar on a product page, though. She built a path that takes someone from browsing to booked in three choices.

1. Choose your city

Houston or Austin. Each studio runs its own lineup, its own schedule, and its own capacity. Picking the city first means every class, date, and seat the customer sees after that is one they can actually get to.

2. Say what you want to learn

Moxie Collective's booking flow asking the customer what they want to learn

The question asks what you want to make, not what level you are. I want to alter clothes points to Tailor Your Threads. I want to make clothes points to Make Your Own Clothes. A first-timer gets a start-here path instead of a catalogue.

3. Choose your class

From there the customer picks the workshop and checks out like any other Shopify purchase. They can book a single session and choose the date at checkout, or buy a class package: a block of sessions paid for now, with the dates booked later, whenever their weeks allow.

Behind the storefront

Michaela built that storefront. Easy Appointment Booking handles everything behind it.

Two cities means two sets of schedules, capacities, and staff that must never collide. Two classes can share the same room without double booking it, and a sold-out Saturday in Houston never touches the Austin calendar. Per-class intake questions travel with the order, so sewing and crochet students get asked different things and the studio knows who is walking in new before the day arrives.

Packages: pay now, book later

How class packages work: one Shopify purchase creates a balance of sessions the customer redeems against future class dates

A package is sold as one product, and it does not have to be one class. The bundle above pairs Beginner Sewing with Tailor Your Threads, bought in a single checkout with no date attached to it.

Buying it releases a booking link, emailed the moment payment clears. The link carries exactly what they bought: two bookings, good for sixty days, against those two classes. They redeem it as they pick dates, zero of two up to two of two, and can see what is left without emailing anyone to ask.

Picking a date is often what stops someone buying. A package removes that step: Moxie gets paid up front, and the customer has classes waiting whenever they are ready.

Memberships redeem the same way

Moxie runs three membership tiers, Starter Sewing, Sewing Creator, and Sewing Pro, and moved their existing Acuity members over without losing anyone. Members subscribe through the Shopify store, and their sessions redeem as prepaid packages, the same mechanism the class packages run on. Membership payments and class bookings land on the same customer record.

"People sometimes can't find their link to redeem or reschedule, so one place is key. They have their own customer portal, they can see how many bookings they have. I think it's really efficient."

One store, one customer list

For a studio that takes people from first stitch to pro, the path matters: someone walks in never having threaded a machine, comes back for crochet night, then Tailor Your Threads, then a membership.

Because every booking is a Shopify order, that path sits in one place. Moxie can see who their regulars are, what they took last, and what to invite them to next, right from the store they already run. Two weeks after launch, Michaela was already nudging students from finished sessions to book the next one. She has since sent other Houston businesses to the app, and her pitch to them is the same thing she would tell any studio owner:

"This is the one software where I feel like you have a partner. You guys help us, and it's a win-win. Anytime I tell people how to set up on Shopify, I recommend you guys."

What's next

Michaela's list for the fall: delegating to each city through the Team Portal, so the Austin team manages Austin and the Houston team manages Houston, and richer booking emails, so every class tells students exactly what to bring. Part of that is live in the app today, and part is feedback already with our product team. That is how Easy Appointment Booking gets built: we keep investing in the next feature that makes a merchant's week easier, and merchants like Moxie point the way.

Thinking about moving your classes into Shopify?

Moxie Collective went from installing the app to running two cities' worth of workshops in weeks, not months. If you run classes, workshops, or experiences and your bookings still live outside your store, Easy Appointment Booking brings them home: one checkout, one customer list, and a calendar your whole team can run.
