How to sell class packs and session bundles on Shopify

A class pack is a product that turns into credits. The customer buys a 5- or 10-session pack at checkout, gets an email with a package code, and books each session when they want. Every booking uses one credit, and a cancelled booking gives it back. Shopify cannot track credits on its own, so you need a booking app with packages.

Discount codes as credits

Best for: A handful of regulars.
Limits: You make a code for every customer and track by hand how many are used.

A subscription app

Best for: Monthly memberships that bill again each month.
Limits: A subscription bills the customer, but it does not book a class. You still need a calendar.

Packages in a booking app

Best for: Class passes, session bundles, and gift packs paid once.
Limits: On Easy Appointment Booking, packages need Pro Plus.

Make the pack a product
In Shopify, make a product such as 10-Class Pack at the full price. Or add it as a variant next to Single class on the class product.

Create the package
In the app, click Sell a package, then Create a new package. Select the product, name the package, and set the Booking Limit to 10.

Choose what it books
Pick the classes the pack can be used for. One pack can cover several classes, such as all your morning classes.

Set an expiry, if you want one
Type a number of days after purchase, such as 90. Leave it blank for a pack that never expires.

Buy one yourself
Check that the purchase shows on the Packages page and that the email with the booking link arrives.

Sell it as a gift

Allow gifting, and buyers tick This is a gift on the product page. The recipient gets the pack by email, now or on a date the buyer picks.

Put the pack next to the single class

A variant on the same product shows customers the saving at the moment they decide.

Show the credits in their account

With customer accounts on, customers see their packs and book from them when they sign in.

Fix mistakes from the Packages page

Add or remove sessions on a pack, or cancel it, without a new order.

Common questions

Can I sell 5-packs and 10-packs?

Yes. Make one product and one package for each size.

Does a cancelled class give the credit back?

Yes. When a booking made with a package is cancelled, the session goes back to the package.

How does expiry work?

By default the expiry date is the last day to book, so a customer can book a later date before it runs out. Turn on Only allow bookings inside the expiry period to make it the last day for the class itself.
