How to sell event tickets on Shopify

To sell tickets on Shopify, you need two things Shopify does not have: a date and time for each ticket, and a limit on how many people can come. A booking app adds both. Customers pick an event date on the product page, choose how many tickets they want, and pay through Shopify checkout. When an event is full, its time disappears from the calendar.

Your options

A product with stock as the ticket count

Best for
One event, one price, sold once.
Limits
Each date needs its own product or variant. There is no date picker, no reminder, and no list of who is coming.

A ticketing platform, linked from your store

Best for
Large concerts with seat maps and resale.
Limits
Customers pay on another site, often with a fee per ticket. The buyer is not a Shopify customer, so you cannot market to them from Shopify.

A Shopify booking app with ticket types

Best for
Tastings, tours, workshops, and events that run on many dates.
Limits
Not built for reserved seating, such as seat B12 in a theater.

Set up event tickets with Easy Appointment Booking

  1. 1

    Create the event

Click New Event or Service and choose Paid service. Choose Group, and type how many people the event can hold, such as 40.

  2. 2

    Add the dates

Choose A one-off event for a single night, or On a few specific days for a run of dates. Each date gets its own 40 places.

  3. 3

    Add ticket types

On the General tab, turn on Sell multiple ticket types. Add each price, such as Adult $30, Child $15, and Under 3 $0. The app adds a Shopify variant for each one.

  4. 4

Link the product and go live

Link the event to a Shopify product, turn off Track quantity, and switch on the app embed in your theme. Customers then see Select a time, then Select your tickets.

  5. 5

Check guests in at the door

Export the guest list for the event as a spreadsheet, or check people in from the Check in tile in Shopify POS.

Tickets with one price per person work on every plan. Ticket types, such as Adult and Child, need Pro Plus ($39/month).

Things to get right

Free tickets still take a place

A $0 ticket for babies or carers keeps your headcount correct, so you never sell more places than the room holds.

Hold the place during checkout

Turn on Temporarily reserve selected timeslots. While one customer pays, nobody else can take the last tickets.

Price per group when it makes sense

For a private table or a family pass, Fixed Price Booking charges one price however many people come.

Change prices in the app

Edit ticket names and prices in the app, not in Shopify, so the event and the variants stay in step.

Common questions

Can I sell tickets for a one-night event?

Yes. Choose A one-off event when you create it, and set the date and start time. The calendar shows only that date.

How many ticket types can one event have?

From 1 to 20. All of them share the event's places. If the event holds 40 and someone buys 2 Adult and 1 Child, 37 places are left.

Can I limit the number of child tickets?

Not on one event. All ticket types share the same places. To cap one type, make it its own event.

Do customers get a ticket by email?

Customers get a booking confirmation email with the event, date, time, and their tickets, such as 2× Adult, 1× Child. On paid plans they also get a reminder before the event.

Can I sell tickets at the door?

Yes. Staff can book a customer from the Book an Appointment tile in Shopify POS and take payment in the same sale.
