Easy Appointment Booking does not calculate or change tax. Shopify calculates tax at checkout, the same as for your other products. So the tax on a booking follows the tax setting of the Shopify product that the service uses.
Charge tax on a service or package
- In your Shopify admin, go to Products and open the product for the service or package.
- In the price section, check Charge tax on this product. Clear it if the product has no tax.
- If the product has variants, check the setting on each variant.
- Click Save.
Your tax rates, regions, and whether prices include tax are in Shopify, under Settings > Taxes and duties.
If a package or service has no tax at checkout, check Charge tax on this product first. It is the most common cause.
How tax works for each kind of booking
| Booking | Tax |
|---|---|
| A customer books and checks out | Shopify adds tax from the product's setting |
| A customer buys a package | Shopify adds tax from the package product's setting |
| A customer books with a package | The customer paid tax when they bought the package. The booking does not add tax |
| A deposit booking | The app makes a Shopify draft order for the product and lowers the amount due with a discount. Shopify calculates tax on that order |
| You add a booking with a Shopify order or draft order | Shopify calculates tax from the product's setting |
| A booking without payment | There is no order, so there is no tax |
| A booking on Shopify POS | POS adds tax from the product's setting |
Tax in exports
The price column in a booking export is the price before tax. To see the tax a customer paid, open the Shopify order. See How bookings connect to Shopify orders.
