Take Bookings Without Payment (Pay in Person)

Some customers pay in person, pay later, or do not pay at all. With Book without payment, customers book a time without paying and without Shopify checkout. Use it for free bookings, or when you collect cash or card at the visit.

Turn it on#

1. On the Dashboard, open the service.
2. On the General tab, find Payment Options.
3. Choose Book without payment.
4. Click Save in the bar at the top of the page.

When you create a new service, you can also choose Free booking in the setup guide. This turns on the same option.

What customers see#

1. The customer picks a time.
2. They type their name and email, and answer your intake questions.
3. They confirm. The booking is made at once.

There is no cart and no Shopify checkout. So:

• Shopify does not make an order, and no tax is charged.
• In Bookings, the booking shows Booked without checkout instead of an order number.
• You collect the payment yourself, for example in cash or on your card reader at the visit.

Limits#

• Ticket types do not work with this option, because ticket prices are charged at checkout. If you choose Book without payment, ticket types turn off. Your ticket types are kept, so you can turn them on again later.
• Deposits turn off too. See the alternatives below.
• Shopify discount codes do not apply. Customers can only use a discount code at Shopify checkout.

Vouchers, such as Groupon#

The app does not check Groupon or other voucher codes. To collect them:

1. Make a Text intake question, such as "Voucher code".
2. Check Set this field as required, and assign it to the service. See Ask customers questions when they book. Intake questions need the Standard plan or higher.
3. Use Book without payment on the service, so voucher customers do not pay twice.
4. At the visit, check the code with the voucher company before you give the service.

Other ways to take payment later#

• Take a deposit. Customers pay part of the price online, and you collect the rest later. This needs the Pro Plus plan or higher. See Take a deposit, then collect the rest.
• Add a "Pay in person" variant at $0. Keep Pay to book on, and give the product two variants, such as "Pay now" at the full price and "Pay in person" at $0. On the service's General tab, in Variants, check both. Customers who choose "Pay in person" go through checkout at $0, so you still get a Shopify order. Both variants share the same times and spots.
